Profile picture: A white woman with long brown hair, smiling. She wears a bright red shirt, red lipstick, pink glasses, and earrings. There is a large gray and black tattoo of clocks on her arm.

Header picture: A brown cat sleeps on a colorful blanket. He has stripes and spots, because he is an Ocicat. His face is resting on one paw, and his name is Spot.

Introducing the Kongputer: A computer designed just for King Kong.

We adapted an old Dodge Neon to serve as a mouse.

The keyboard keys are made from the bones of dinosaurs that Kong killed and ate.

The operating system, of course, is a bespoke version of MacOS, dubbed BananaOS.

Kong mostly uses the Kongputer to watch music videos by Gorillaz, and also to instant message Taylor Swift. We're not sure how he got her contact info.

Distinguishing ourselves from corporate social media and being proud of the culture we made here is a good thing actually.

Keep the tootin', growlin', barkin', meowin' or whatever noun your instance uses for expressing yourself!

The number of men taking pictures of beautiful women gazing into the distance at the Acropolis and Ancient Agora is SUPER high. I feel like I should hop on Instagram and look for .

It was Japan, too, that taught me to Google immediately upon feeling something. (This was back when Yurekuru Call wasn't working on my phone.)

I'm impressed to see that Google now gives you a question when you search: "Did you just feel shaking? Yes/No/Unsure" I assume they tie that in with location data to produce a response map.

Alas, no JMA-style map of who felt the shaking here in Greece. Then again, most folks are asleep, and that wouldn't have woken anyone.

When I lived in Japan (10 years ago) my boss used to say I was like a cat in my sensitivity to earthquakes. I could feel even the smallest ones.

Apparently I've still got it, because this just happened.

If not for that page, I'd have convinced myself 10 minutes ago that it was just a truck going by. M1.7 and 155km away, surely nobody can feel that, right? But my body noticed the tiniest wiggle of the bed, and lo and behold, there was an earthquake.

This is Elizabeth. She's the first cat I've seen in Athens who let me pet her. I've seen a couple of strays, too, but they didn't let me get close.

The main thing I love about the Schengen area is the knowledge that I can go anywhere. I'd be out a lot of money if I missed my flight to Athens, but if I really wanted to, I could leave the Munich airport and hop on a train to Amsterdam, Strasbourg, Zurich... Schengen is cool.

I'm actually on the plane. Holy shit. I haven't flown anywhere in almost a year, and I haven't flown internationally in two and a half. I used to travel a couple of times a year. I can't believe I'm actually on the plane.

I found where they keep the mobile lounges at Dulles. As a lifelong DC resident, this pleases me greatly. I took the train to my gate today but I sure do love a nostalgic mobile lounge ride.

I find it very strange that I can take the charging cable out of my Android phone and put it straight into my iPad.

"So you're an enchanted sword."
"Yes. I can converse, give you tactical advice, I can guide your hand to help you cut-"
"Can you absolve guilt?"
"No. You are doing the cutting."
"Thought so. Do you like it?"
"No. But I'm used to it."
"I'm not. Is it okay if we just hang?"
"Yes!"

Here's a tip for you! You can caption audio uploads as well as images. Just like you'd put a description for screen reader users, please describe your audio content for deaf users. Thank you! 🤟🏻

Oh, and I have downloaded 24 hours of Netflix content, just in case the seatback TVs don't work or don't have English subtitles or something. Normally I really enjoy watching films on foreign airlines, but after the last two years, I refuse to leave ANYTHING to chance. I have a lot of international travel experience but I no longer trust anything about the process.

I have a negative PCR test, my preferred seat assignment, a vegetarian meal, my CDC card, and a bunch of KN95 masks. It looks like this trip will actually happen. In 22 hours I'll be on a plane to Munich, and from there, on to Athens.

My all-deaf writing retreat in Norway may have been canceled, but I'm halfway through 3 hours on Zoom with a small handful of deaf writers, and I'll take it. :blobcatheart:

Hey Fedi, do you know if there is a federated (perhaps even #ActivityPub-powered) cooking recipe hosting service? If not, let's 👏 make 👏 this 👏 happen!

I hate modern recipe websites. All of them are full with ads and tracking. The leading recipe hosting in my country loads over 30 different trackers, and that's excluding the ads!

@trekkies Your server is back, please come back! I don't want to have to look at Twitter to see you.
