More confirmation of things that have been known for a long time

I am still doing my Buffy/Angel 20 year anniversary rewatch, of all the media properties that people debate about avoiding entirely or separating the art from the artist due to abuse and such from actors or creators in them, Buffy/Angel is the hardest one for me as they were my first fandoms. At least I'm just watching episodes I already own...

Antony Head didn't see anything but I also found this interview with James Marsters from last year in which he detailed how aggressive Joss Whedon was towards him for being popular with fans

Also Jessie Gender has a video from 2018 about Joss, I'm sure she'll have a new one out soon

Michelle Trachtenberg updated her instagram post to say "There was a rule saying [Whedon is] not allowed in a room alone with Michelle again." 馃槶 instagram.com/p/CLH9ce-ByTV/

She was 15 when her first season as Dawn aired, it's the one I'm currently watching in my 20 year rewatch, I was already finding Dawn's storyline a lot more deeply affecting than back when I was the same age as her, and now to find out that Joss was so abusive towards Michelle that he wasn't allowed alone with her is a whole other level of upsetting

Emma Caulfield reposted Sarah's statement on her Instagram story (since expired) and added "In the wise words of my friend Sarah"

Clare Kramer confirms everyone's truth

As she was Glory during Dawn's first season she worked pretty closely with Michelle so probably saw some stuff

oh also just remembered about that stunt couple who Joss tried to break up on Buffy and tried to ruin their careers with vicious rumours

Not watched it yet but Jessie Gender has indeed produced a video about all this youtube.com/watch?v=dyi-E_dQbD

Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

Just watched the video, good summary and discussion of how people like Joss are allowed to keep working in the industry, and some good points about how continuing to watch the things he was involved in is supporting the actors and crew who worked on them, I think I'll probably be continuing with my 20 year rewatch of Buffy and Angel but I can definitely see that knowing more about the conditions behind the scenes will have an effect on the experience

wow this fact that Amazon put on Buffy Season 5 episode 15

Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

Variety published this article a few days ago that brings everything together and have a few anonymous sources corroborating what has been shared publicaly variety.com/2021/tv/features/j

@wolfie Ouch.

Perhaps separating the art from the artist is easier/more justifiable for TV shows than for many other media, due to the sheer number of contributors --- even more so than film, what with directors and writers changing from one episode to the next. Avoiding Buffy entirely seems to negate the contributions of everyone involved, including those who have spoken out.

Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@bstacey that is a good point, a lot of my favourite episodes weren't even written or directed by him, and the cast were all excellent

re: Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@wolfie I didn't know about Joss Whedon being abusive at all (I live under a rock) but... yikes. Can't say I'm surprised, but ugh.I had no idea Joss Whedon was that bad.

re: Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@Elizafox the first time anything came out was 2017 when his ex wife came out about his abuse in their marriage, and Charisma has previously mentioned how unhappy she was with her treatment while she was pregnant though not in as much detail, so things have been brewing quietly for a while, but maybe with some major people he worked with on Buffy and Angel coming forward things will be taken more seriously finally?

re: Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@wolfie 馃槵

I have no words. This is awful.

Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@wolfie What I want to know: where are all the white men supporting the-... oh right, they are also all horrible.

Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@Juju Anthony Head has been asked about it, and the video of James Marsters is from last year so not a direct response to the current situation, would be good to hear from David Boreanaz as most of Charisma's abuse from Joss happened on Angel

Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@Juju thinking about it, we probably won't hear from David as he had his own abuse scandal on Bones, but maybe Alexis (and Alyson) will speak up?

Joss Whedon being an abusive asshole

@wolfie I read that Alyson was his favorite so she probably didn't experience anything. I hope she still speaks up.
