Somebody shared Tumblr screenshots about the Tiffany problem, and one of them was about Bartholomeus Anglicus (d. 1272).
And I was like, yay Bartholomeus!
I love him for two reasons:
1) his encyclopedia has some really bizarre entries. I posted my rough translation of his list of elephant facts a while back (want to see it again?). I should do more.
2) the English editions of 1398 and 1582 both translate the word for pubic hair as "netherbeard", which is a word deserving wider usage.
A silly instance of Mastodon for queer folk and non-queer folk alike. Let's be friends!
