I had a dream about a cello with some rather complicated sympathetic strings. The design for it in the dream would totally not work in reality but now I’m thinking about how sympathetic strings might work on a cello on real life and what it might sound like.
I stumbled through Wikipedia to try to understand what sympathetic strings are, and by chance found this thing called the baryton.
Note especially the first paragraph of "Modern Revival".
