Finally on my way to get a long-overdue really-everyone-should-get-one COVID-19 test. Not because I think I’m sick but because I’m worried about being an asymptomatic spreader, and also need to worry about the potential for getting sick.

Got a throat swab test for the virus and a small blood test for antibodies. Was pretty easy. Everyone should do this if they’re able to, whether they think they’ve been exposed or not. More data will help everyone.

Antibody test came back negative, so that finally answers a question I’ve had for a few months. It’s just my body being shitty as always.

@fluffy That is not the advice we are getting for the BC government, there aren't enough tests available even here for random testing to help cause a noticeable reduction

COVID

@Canageek ah that’s fair, it does depend on the region. Follow your local advice I guess.

COVID

@fluffy Where has unlimited tests if you don't mind me asking? BC is doing pretty well with testing and we've got the best containment in North America (and better then most of Europe) last I checked but even we don't have enough for that

COVID

@Canageek Seattle. They’re not unlimited by any means but they’re plentiful enough that my doctors office announced that everyone should get one.

COVID

@fluffy Weird, BC is pointing out that mass testing would cause issues due to the false positive rate and you'd need to test a noticeable % of the population regularly for it to be useful (number I'm finding from the us is 2-6% - so 150K in WA state)

That said, the state says its daily capacity is 22,000K and rising, which means they could hit 2% over 14 days if they wanted to?

(Anyway, your states advice is only if you are a health care worker, in contact with an outbreak or have symptoms: doh.wa.gov/Emergencies/NovelCo )

COVID

@Canageek okay, I'm just going based on this message I got this morning from my doctor's office, don't know what else to tell you

COVID

@fluffy It sounds like your doctor is going against the advice of the state, either as they think they know better, or to collect fees?
