Today's terrible game idea:
Herbal Spice Program
You're stranded on an alien planet and really want a cup of tea
@fluffy oh no I want to make this game now
@fluffy For real, I would like to make a PICO-8 game based on this concept, would you mind?
@InspectorCaracal Sure! I have a lot of ideas on how the game could be a game, like you need to find herbs that taste good but also aren't poisonous, and sometimes the good-tasting herbs are poisonous and look very similar to the good-tasting herbs that aren't.
@InspectorCaracal and it's the sort of game I'd be making myself if I weren't, like, full of chronic pain and stuff right now
@fluffy thank you :D That fits well with what came to mind when I saw your toot! I'm thinking a mini exploration/puzzle sidescroller, where you have to find water and plants and figure out if they're safe or not (maybe with some sort of science kit?) and there's some kind of heat source inside your defunct spaceship for making the tea on...
@InspectorCaracal tagline: dying for a cup of tea
Maybe one special herb helps you transcend all of space time and see the way home
@fluffy yES
I'm going to keep you updated on any progress I make and put you in as a co-author because these ideas are amazing
@InspectorCaracal yay!
I could make music. Been needing an excuse to learn the pico-8 tracker
@fluffy oh I am terrible at music, that would be great. :D
@InspectorCaracal better name: herbal spice problem
@fluffy oooooh, yes
glad I named my folder "hsp" xD
@fluffy What do you mean "terrible"
@fluffy That was Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
yes people I am aware of hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy thanks
(I have read the books many times, and have listened to the radio show even more times than that. I have also beaten the text adventure, and I make oblique references to it pretty much everywhere. I do not need to be informed of its existence.)
I even love and cherish the BBC series as well as the Hollywood movie that all the nerds got angry about.
Still haven't seen the off-Broadway musical though.
@fluffy But if we don't make references how will you know that we recognize one of the five most inescapable things from pre-2000 nerd culture?
@Austin_Dern eh, making references in kind is fine, what got my goat was people telling me about this thing that existed as if I didn't already know, and as if its existence invalidates the joke I made about something else
Also
Oh and when I was working on the original Kindle and it was going to come with wireless access to Wikipedia I suggested it should come with a cover with “DON’T PANIC” in large friendly letters.
@fluffy I remember an XKCD comic that comments on that, ah yes https://xkcd.com/548/
Also, it's weird to me when people seem to think they are super intellectual because they know about/can reference H2G2 when it's just something that was just always around when I was growing up because my Dad introduced me and we reference it a lot
@wolfie yeah I loved that comic. :) If I'd still been at Amazon at that time I'd have printed that out and put it on my wall.
@fluffy haha excellent 😄
@fluffy i think that's a great idea!
