blending the boundaries between We Live in a Society sadposting and flippant shitposting in a dangerous way; touch starvation, toxic masculinity

"fellas is it gay to have skin?" is one of those lines that'll haunt me forever

@MordecaiPinhas the above post is the shitpost poem (shitpoem? shitpostem?) that I wish I knew how to expropriate as Serious Business Poetry™

@byttyrs hey do you. .. Do you want a hug

@Aleums PFFFFFT I mean, yes, but I wrote this as an attempt to have sympathy for straight men

@Aleums the water here is deeper than it looks, currents aren't necessarily visible from the surface etc. etc. 😁

@byttyrs
Cascades of men
Questioning my skin
"Fellas, is it gay to have skin?"
My skin in which I
Suck cock and live life
Hell yes it's gay to have skin
You're all gay now, my dudes
Fucking deal with it and get around to sleeping with me.

@byttyrs Not my best effort, but you see where it might go.

@MordecaiPinhas PFFFFFT thank you for this trenchant submission

the issue here is that the meme reference of "fellas is it gay to [X]?" is at the core of the comment, because all those posts are about, like, refusing to acknowledge weakness, need, intimacy, or vulnerability outta toxic masculinity

so like, there's a vision of masculinity in which it literally is "kinda spicy" to have skin and be a social animal, without anything actually gay needing to occur

@byttyrs See, I'd read the shit out of a poem that addressed all that

@byttyrs an extensive CW but I was still fully unprepared for the content (in a good way)

@bryn easy: I steeped in my own juices for 25 years and counting

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@byttyrs lmao i just so happen to have quite a few resources on skin on my desk as we speak

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@garfiald 👀👀🤔👀👀 oh hells yes... skinny legend

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@byttyrs @garfiald did the intricate rituals art piece/meme inspire the initial post

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@wintgenstein @garfiald not in an immediate way but that piece had a big impact on me so after a fashion yes

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@byttyrs @garfiald god i wish i could have experienced the piece without the context of tumblr women harassing men using it to find out if they're gay or not

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@byttyrs @garfiald god i can't even like properly explain it. there'd be posts of like guys talking about their personal lives and like talking about male friendships and stuff and like popular women would be quote the intricate rituals text to them and it'd get a shitload of reblogs as like An Epic Own it made zero fuckin sense! it was EVERYWHERE for a few weeks

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@wintgenstein @byttyrs @garfiald god im glad i left tumblr

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@photophoregirl @byttyrs @garfiald liek there's so many people who are like...ah...time to log in and harass total strangers all day!!!

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@photophoregirl @byttyrs @garfiald having used the site for the better part of a decade uh it explains how a lot of the tumblr teens use this site lol

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@wintgenstein @garfiald Woke Feminist Homophobia? yeah that sounds like Tumblr

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@byttyrs @garfiald like if you think mastodon runs memes/jokes into the ground...on tumblr that's basically the only thing you'll see for weeks

@wintgenstein oh the short halflife of memes on Masto vs. Tumblr was one of the first things I appreciated abt this place

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@byttyrs now catamites are the ones that hang down from the ceiling, right?

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@burgin it's cataTites that hang from the Top, cataMites Might reach them

humanities/literary criticism nonsense, further meditations on the gayness of having skin

@byttyrs i am thinking way too much about this

@byttyrs well you in Kenneth Dover's *Greek Homosexuality*, Dover argues that to enjoy the position of the *eromenos*--
"ok illness it's time for bed"

@byttyrs this post rocked the fediverse to its core

@Aleums 'gay to have skin' is the rock upon which I have built my clout
