jfc couldn't resist a peek at the local city subreddit, local chatter sure has gotten hostile in the past year

the way people talk about unhoused neighbors is disgusting and dehumanizing. "progressive" fucken liberals getting their pants in a twist over ppl giving tents to the homeless bc they should use insert-social-program-here instead. if these programs you hold dear really are everything you say, then why don't they just use them? they have brains

homeless people are not your children, they are not vermin, they are not a disease to be cured. they are humans, with their own thoughts, desires, and lives, over which they should have their own autonomy. how dare you suggest they should sleep on the street for one more night so you can herd them into your program to make them live the way _you_ want them to

oh, they have a drug problem? we should get them "help"? ok! how about removing the external influences that lead them to seek the escapism of drugs? like being fucking homeless?! no? you don't want to help them that way? right, because they make you feel uncomfortable when you see them at the end of the mcdonalds fuckin drivethrough

"drugs cause homelessness" bitch if i lost my home and had to sleep on the streets i'd be fucking high all the time too! shitty lives cause addiction. and your lovely liberal little society where everyone surely has earned their lot in life and deserves it causes shitty lives

if your programs are so good, how about this? round up the landlords and property developers who buy up all the housing and put THEM in the shelters. surely they won't object

providing help for people struggling with addiction is good! it's a thing we should do! also a thing we should do: pulling our heads out of our asses and realizing solving the _cause_ of the addiction is how you stop this being a big dumb and deadly game of whack-a-mole.

do any of you realize how close to being homeless YOU are? fucking hell, most of us are one tragedy away. one unlucky hospital visit and your ass belongs to the healthcare industry. and we look at people who've suffered this and think "boy, wouldn't i be a good person if i help them with the drug thing" no. help them with the not having enough power over their own lives to live them fulfillingly thing

"meth addiction is basically uncurable" one person says (...so we should force them to seek treatment for it? you don't feel any cognitive dissonance there bruh?) maybe then we could try to stop more people from falling in it? oh but then we'd have to pretend there are people in the _process_ of getting to that point instead of just dehumanizingly categorizing them all as untreatable addicts

pol, homelessness, orange site(ish), thread

gah, boulder co is such a cesspit. I've never seen so many "let the homeless die, they're all fucking addicts anyway" people proudly claiming to be liberals

like yeah liberalism doesn't hold the answer to these problems but aren't y'all at least supposed to pretend to be kind? 🙃

fuck this city yo
