Fans of capitalism assert that greed is an honorable motivation and that laziness is an evil. They then suggest that greed drives technological advances in productivity.

As someone who designs tools and machines, and also doing production work myself, I can tell you that improvements in efficiency and productivity driven by laziness are indistinguishable from those driven by greed. Laziness is the creative spark closest to the workers expert in production and is the mother of most invention.

In the modern industrial setting, the necessity that mothers invention seems most often to be the necessity to work a little less hard.
